Originally a railroad stop and an apple processing center, Centeron is now home to more than 14,000 residents. Guided tours, cave movie showings, and panning for gem stones, crystals, and fossils are all activities offered at the Old Spanish Treasure Cave. The cave stays 56 degrees year-round.
Another place of historic interest is the War Eagle Mill, 25 miles west in War Eagle, Arkansas. The first mill was built in 1832. Over the years, it has been destroyed three times: once by flood and twice by fire. It was last rebuilt in 1973. The mill is now the only working watermill in the state of Arkansas and houses a store and restaurant called “The Bean Palace.”
Located in nearby Bentonville, Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art is a top-rated museum, with pieces by Gilbert Stuart, Georgia O’Keeffe, and Kehinde Wiley, in addition to architecture designed by Moshe Safdie. The museum also includes the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Bachman-Wilson House, as well as a Fly’s Eye Dome structure by R. Buckminster Fuller. Surrounded by five miles of nature trails, Crystal Bridges draws both residents and tourists from across the world.
